Hello everyone
I'm sick and tired of reading such horrors stories as the following about
the deadly effects of aspartame! This is another field of action for those
of us motivated enough to help put an end to this criminal poisoning of
people and innocent children...
Please help pass this around especially to warn as many mothers and fathers
as possible of this threat to their babies with Pedialyte and Augmentin.
And if you have a child on Ritalin - and most likely this has been forced
upon you by the school director under the threat of firing your child from
his/her school as I heard on TV this week! - then carefully look into what
he/she eats and drinks as it is very likely that aspartame is the real
cause of his/her behavioral problems. (See "RATE OF RITALIN USE FOR
TODDLERS RAPIDLY RISING IN THE U.S." below).
And if you drink pop sodas, be aware that aspartame may have been put into
without any mention of it on the label...

Subject: Personal note
Dear Jean,
I went ahead and sent you that last article rather than wait for Shoshanna
because the recall on Fresca is dated the 23rd of February. I had to wait
until I could talk to Dr. Bowen before I sent it because I wanted to get
some insight on aspartame being added unlabeled. He had been telling me
about so many people having reactions to regular pop who believed aspartame
had been included.
Plus yesterday when I spoke with all the mothers in Walmart who had used
Pedialyte I was really upset and had to cool down before I started
writing. When they tell you about babies that had died from it, and the
suffering some went through it just really got to me. I picked up one baby
with urticaria (hives) who was so fretful and sick. I asked the mother was
the baby on aspartame and she said she never used it. Then when I
mentioned Pedialyte she said "oh yes, I gave him some today". Most people
don't read labels. Some of the most serious drinks are Crystal lite (being
taken off the market, thank God!) and Diet Kool Aide. When people drink
gallons of this drug in these kind of products they get very
sick. Pedialyte which comes in a large bottle to stop dehydration is
causing a lot of neurotoxin to the tender brains of these babies,
equivalent to an adult drinking gallons of products of the above. And I
shudder to even think of how many babies may have died from these seizures
since we get so many complaints. It brings you to tears to hear the stories.
I did call Pedialyte and tell them to take this poison out of babies
products. I was told, "we have one unflavored version that doesn't contain
the toxin". I said: "Look, just because you market one product without
arsenic doesn't give you the right to market others with arsenic and poison
our children." Then she says: "Well, I'll pass on the message". This
stuff is being advertised all over TV, in babies magazines and physicians
are telling mothers to use it.
All my best,
Betty

Pedialyte and Augmentin. Recent study shows 1.5% of children 2 to 4 years

Feb 24: According to FDA, more than 24,000 cases of Fresca with undeclared
Acesulfame Potassium were distributed in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina,
Tennessee, California and Nevada. This is a Class III recall. Fresca also
contains aspartame. Fountain machines contain no PKU warnings required by
law for phenylketonurics who cannot metabolize phenylalanine. If a baby is
PKU if he survives aspartame at all which triggers birth defects, autism,
ADD, etc., he can be mentally retarded. No warning for pregnant women!
As to Acesulfame K, in Aspartame (NutraSweet) Is It Safe? by H. J. Roberts,
M.D., (Charles Press), page 283/284 it says:
"Acesulfame potassium (or acesulfame K) was approved for use by the FDA as
a safe artificial sweetener in July 1988. it is a derivative of acetoacetic
acid. Unfortunately, several potential problems associated with the use of
acesulfame have been raised. They are based largely on animal studies since
testing on humans remains limited.
* It stimulates insulin secretion in a dose-dependent fashion, thereby
possibly aggravating reactive hypoglycemia ("low blood sugar attacks") * It
apparently produced lung tumors, breast tumors, rare types of tumors in the
organs (such as the thymus gland), several forms of leukemia, and chronic
respiratory disease in several rodent studies, even when less-than-maximum
doses were given. Accordingly, the Center for Science in the Public
Interest formally petitioned on August 29, l988 for a stay of approval by
the FDA on August 29, l988 because of "significant doubt" about the safety
of acesulfame potassium."
Aspartame Disease has been declared a world epidemic by H. J. Roberts,
M.D., so Fresca should be avoided at all costs anyway.

RATE OF RITALIN USE FOR TODDLERS RAPIDLY RISING IN THE U.S.
Aspartame concern relating to children and babies: The Atlanta Journal
Constitution, front page story, on 2/23/2000 reported that "Doctors are
prescribing stimulants such as Ritalin and antidepressants such as Prozac
for preschoolers at rates that appear to be rising rapidly, according to a
study released Tuesday. The study covering children ages 2 to 4 in three
large health systems in different parts of the United States, found the use
of such drugs had doubled or even tripled from l991 to l995. The rapid
increase occurred despite the fact that none of the most commonly used of
these drugs has been approved for children younger than 6 and little
research has been done on the medicines' effects on children so young."
Why would toddlers in this age group be using stimulants, antidepressants
or antipsychotic drugs, as many as 150,000 children documented in l995?
Ralph Walton, M.D., Psychiatrist, Chairman of the Center for Behavioral
Medicine said: "We have known for years that when aspartame is ingested
with a carbohydrate rich meal the usual physiologic increase in tryptophan
is blocked, while brain phenylalanine and tyrosine concentrations are
increased. These changes in amino acid neurotransmitter precursors could, I
believe, alter indoleamine/catechloramine balance, and thus have a profound
effect on mood and cognition. ...depressed mood, anxiety, dizziness, panic
attacks, nausea, irritability, impairment of memory and concentration."
Aspartame is in children's vitamins, chewable and flavored over-the-counter
drugs, prescription RX like Augmentin and flavored Pedialyte and even their
frozen pops. Dr. Miguel Baret of the Dominican Republic reported giving 360
children juice laced with aspartame and said most developed "abnormal
restlessness, lack of concentration, irritability and depression." When he
removed the aspartame he said: "The results were astonishing. Their
symptoms disappeared in 4 to 6 days in ALL of them!" Neurosurgeon Russell
Blaylock, M.D., author of Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills (amazon.com)
says aspartame is a toxin like arsenic and cyanide that causes confusion,
disorientation, autism, seizures, cancer, pancreatic, uterine, ovarian and
brain tumors.
Countless calls from parents complain their children are having seizures
and many of the above symptoms while using Pedialyte, I called the company
and demanded they remove it. To date no response. In checking the flavors
today aspartame was in all but one unflavored version. When explained to
parents in the store I was told by one she knew of two babies who had died
of seizures while using Pedialyte. One lady said her sister's baby had had
3 seizures and was using it. Another fretful baby in the store with
urticaria (hives) was also currently using it as well. To make matters
worse pediatricians are prescribing Augmentin, a pediatric antibiotic that
also has aspartame, and then recommending Pedialyte, a double whammy to
these little brains. Aspartame is a seizure trigging drug. A pivotal study
used in approval of aspartame, SC 18862. a 52 week oral toxicity infant
monkey study, resulted in 5 out of 7 monkeys fed aspartame having grand mal
seizures. One died. The FDA report of 92 symptoms triggered by aspartame
lists 4 types of seizures. Be warned. A whole list of pediatric drugs with
aspartame are listed on www.dorway.com
Print out the list for your pediatrician.
Mission Possible International asks if your child has had a reaction to
Pedialyte send us the information. Since aspartame is a drug and not an
additive, if a child uses something like Prozac with an aspartame laced
drink, he is taking one psycho drug on top of another!!!!!
In l996, Dr. David Kessler of the FDA granted blanket approval of the
deadly drug aspartame to be used like sugar. Even the original manufacturer
themselves said aspartame could not be used in everything. (see secret
trade information on www.dorway.com) We are constantly seeing sweeteners
mixed together. In this case with Fresca you have the chemical poison
aspartame mixed with another dangerous sweetener, both triggering tumors in
original studies. We are finding aspartame is unlabeled in some products
and in natural and artificial flavors. We have been swamped with complaints
from consumers saying they had aspartame reactions from regular pop. Is
there aspartame in Classic Coke? As Mrs. S. Allison said: "I was drinking a
Coke and starting having an irregular heart beat. I poured it down the
drain and haven't had a problem since." Aspartame notoriously triggers an
irregular heart rhythm. See Dr. Roberts position paper on cardiac symptoms
and aspartame on www.dorway.com David Briars of McLibel News Network said
years ago before he died he thought they were test marketing certain cities
with aspartame in Classic Coke because he had a full blown aspartame
reaction from drinking one. Likewise, students in California have
complained, and one called Coke and asked. He was then asked what city and
zip code he was in. When he said L.A., Coke hung up on him. One student was
so upset he sent over 140 signatures to Coke, (Josej and received standard
misinformation on aspartame. I wrote and told them to stop sending
propaganda to children to mislead them. I have also received complaints on
Minute Maid Orange Juice from a couple of consumers who react violently to
formaldehyde who said it was like an "aspartame reaction". Rochel Blehr
(Environmental Times ) is one of them.
Today in a personal conversion from Dr. James Bowen over the above matters
he said:
"Last summer, at the end of June or early July when regular Coke was
withdrawn across Europe and the Mediterranean and Caribbean, I was poisoned
by it here in the U.S., and came across other men likewise poisoned. The
symptom complex seemed to be significantly different from NutraSweet
poisoning in that the depression associated with aspartame poisoning was
not a prominent issue but the neuroendocrine effects such as impotence and
sexual dysfunction were common to these men. It is my personal opinion that
Sweetener 2000 (Neotame) which was targeted to be marketed by the year 2000
was used rather than aspartame. Subsequent exposure to Tropicanna Orange
Juice and then later the new Milky Way candy bar produced similar symptoms
with full blown recurrence. Even you mentioned to me Monsanto had said to
someone since aspartame has been approved there is no need to get Sweetener
2000 approved because its just another version of aspartame. If the
unbelievable feat of getting aspartame approved was accomplished, I can
understand them feeling they would have the power to put Sweetener 2000 on
the market with or without approval. This seriously challenges the wisdom
on the part of the public in accepting any soft drinks since we obviously
don't know what is going into them and the other chemicals in soft drinks
are not benign. All soft drinks lack any physical sterilization process and
sterilizants called preservatives are added, benzoates and sorbates are the
most common. Benzoates, for example, are in some countries used as
insecticides and, in fact, for a preservative to sufficiently stabilize a
product in these conditions it must, indeed, be an effective insecticide,
bacteroside, fungicide, nemacide and protozoacide at the actual
concentration used in the beverage. This only serves to point out that
these chemicals cannot be harmless to human tissues. Since NutraSweet has
chemically hypersensitized a large portion of our population these
sensitized people will react more violently to other chemical insults."
I consider any manufacturer who would put aspartame, a deadly chemical
poison, in our children's food and drugs absolutely depraved and obscene.
Help us stop them from killing our kids. Help us get aspartame recalled and
adequate labeling of all ingredients that are put in our food!. The FDA is
loyally on the side of Monsanto and has been lying and denying on the issue
of aspartame for years because they are responsible for over-ruling a Board
of Inquiry who said not to approve it in the first place because aspartame
triggered brain tumors in rats. It triggered other tumors as well. They are
guilty of malfeasance. They deny the symptoms and diseases it triggers
while receiving the case histories of these problems daily, and with a
great deal of them on their own FDA report of 92 documented symptoms
triggered by this neurotoxin. www.dorway.com has the FDA's own audit on it,
the Bressler Report, showing aspartame was never proven safe.

Subject: Secret report: The protest of the National Soft Drink Association
against aspartame unearthed under freedom of information legislation
according to the London Times editor.
Britain's best selling sweetener was condemned as dangerous and potentially
toxic in a report compiled by some of the world's biggest soft drinks
manufacturers - who now buy tons of it to add to diet drinks. Coca Cola,
Pepsi and other manufacturers produced the report in the early l980s before
the sweetener aspartame, had been approved for use in America. It warns
that it can affect the workings of the brain, changes behavior and even
encourages users to eat extra carbohydrate, so destroying the point of
using diet drinks.
The documents were unearthed last week under freedom of information
legislation. It follows a decision by researchers at King's College in
London to study suspected links between aspartame intake and brain tumors.
Britons drink more than 9 billion cans or bottles of pop a year, of which
about half contain artificial sweeteners. Aspartame, made by Monsanto and
also marketed under the name NutraSweet, is 200 times sweeter than normal
sugar and is used in many popular low caloric foods and drinks. It has
been declared safe in a number of studies and has been approved for use in
both America and Europe.
There has, however, always been concern at the tendency to break down,
producing methanol, which is both toxic in its own right and which breaks
down further to produce formic acid and formaldehyde, phenylalanine,
another breakdown product of aspartame, is also dangerous to people with
phenyketonuria, a common enzyme deficiency.
The 30 page aspartame report was drawn up under the auspices of America's
National Soft Drink Association (NSDA) whose governing body at the time
included senior Coca Cola and Pepsi executives. It says: "We object to the
approval of aspartame for unrestricted use in soft drinks." It then lists
ways in which aspartame was believed directly to affect brain chemistry,
including the synthesis of vital neurotransmitters such as serotonin.
Other papers obtained with the NSDA documents show the Food and Drug
Administration also had misgivings. Despite this it approved aspartame.
Dick Adamson, of the NSDA, said that in l983, he evaluated the data on
aspartame and posed a number of questions. Once they were answered, it no
longer had concerns about the safety of aspartame in carbonated
drinks. Ben Deutsch, a spokesman for Coca Cola, referred questions to the
NSDA.
End of Report:
This secret report, the protest of the National Soft Drink Association is
on web at www.dorway.com and explains that it was illegal to put aspartame
in carbonated beverages.
"The present record does not contain data which demonstrate that the
use of aspartame in soft drinks will not result in the adulteration
of the beverages under section 402 (a) (3) of the FDC Act, 21 U.S.C. 342
(a) (3),
which provides that a food is adulterated if it contains, in whole or
in part, "...a decomposed substance or or if it is otherwise unfit for food."
Indeed, the present record strongly suggests that the rapid degradation
of aspartame in soft drinks and the consequent loss of sweetness
may well result, under certain actual time and temperature conditions, in
products which would be adulterated under section 402. Without data which
demonstrate that aspartame sweetened beverages will not be adulterated
under section 402 (a) (3) , Searle has not met its burden of proof under
section 409 (c) (3) (B) of the FDC Act. 21 U.S.C. 348 (c) (3) (B)."
Aspartame decomposes into a witches brew of toxins, including
diketopiperazine, a tumor agent. In original studies aspartame triggered
brain, mammary, pancreatic, uterine, ovarian and testicular tumors, and
pituitary adenomas, etc. Furthermore, Searle knew it would do it in the
population as well. The secret trade information also on web has
them admitting that they have to consider complete conversion to DKP and
if the FDA found out they couldn't get it approved. The FDA admitted they
knew in the Food Chemical News when FCN published Jennifer Cohen's report
on an experiment with Diet Coke. Robert Cohen's daughter was then 12 years
old and wanted to find out why her diabetic grandmother almost died of
aspartame. She had Winston Laboratory do an analysis of Diet Coke in an
incubator, at room temperature and in the fridge. Winston Lab analysis
showed even in the fridge aspartame had broken down to DKP and
formaldehyde. This report is also on web. Monsanto bought Searle in 1985.
The NSDA also said (Docket No. 82F-0305) "Aspartame is inherently,
markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media. In a liquid, such as a
soft drink APM will degrade as a function of temperature and pH. Higher
temperatures and more acidic liquids increase the rate of degradation.
Higher temperatures may also affect the degradation products which are formed."
The Trocho study demonstrated following aspartame ingestion, significant
amounts of formaldehyde accumulate in the tissues. Formaldehyde is known
to bind strongly to proteins and nucleic acids, forming adducts that are
extremely difficult to eliminate through normal metabolic pathways. They
demonstrated that labeled methanol (as formaldehyde) accumulated in high
concentrations in the liver (50%) and in lower, but substantial,
concentrations in the kidney, adipose tissue, brain and retina. Within the
cell, they found large amounts located within the DNA. (Trocho C., Pardo
R, et al. Formaldehyde derived from dietary aspartame binds to tissue
components in vivo. Life Sciences 63: 337-349, l998.
Coke and Pepsi knew all this and yet sent diet pop to the Persian Gulf
where soldiers say it sat in the 120 degree Arabian sun on pallets for as
long as 8 weeks at a time, and they drank them all day. They were drinking
formaldehyde cocktails. It is no wonder the symptoms of Desert Storm
Syndrome are identical to the symptoms of Aspartame Disease now declared a
world epidemic by H. J. Roberts, M.D. Page S 5508 in the NSDA document
says "Aspartame decomposes extensively in soft drinks under moderate
conditions." These were not moderate conditions. Coke and Pepsi both knew
the gun was loaded! Dick Adamson said NSDA posed a number of questions and
once they were answered they no longer had concerns about the safety of
aspartame. What answer did they give that explained away decomposition into
poison?????
On 2/26/2000 The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Coke is closing
their New York store, and Vegas world attraction. Aspartame victim Betty
Blythe wrote Chairman of the Board, Summerfield Johnston, Jr. of Coca Cola
about her symptoms and received a reimbursement check for $21.00. On the
back it said: "By acceptance and endorsement of this check the payee
releases and discharges Coca Cola Bottling Co. of Indianapolis from all
liability of whatsoever nature for loss cost, or damage caused by or
arising out of this accident." And its a stamp. Payment for 12 years of
suffering??!!

Sweeteners and colors, too,
Always leave me feeling blue.
MSG and aspartame,
Known to many by negative names,
Make us hyper and make us twitch,
While food companies get rich.
Why must these chemicals be used?
Could the FDA its power abuse?
How can corporate dollars be
More important than you or me?
Industry's eyes are on the goal;
Consumers take a passive role,
Otherwise they fear we might
Turn around and start to fight.
We teach our children "Just say no."
Unfortunately it can't be so.
The authorities say "Make them quiet!

Thank you for contacting Frito-Lay. We are always pleased when our
consumers take the time to share their thoughts with us.
Now that there is a renewed interest in biotechnology by regulatory
agencies and some consumer concern exists, we did not feel it appropriate to ask
our growers to include bt crops in what they sell us.
Just like other food companies, Frito-Lay relies on and supports the
regulatory agencies charged with safeguarding our food supply when sourcing
ingredients for our products. These agencies continue to report that
genetically
modified ingredients are perfectly safe.
Since we are also a large buyer of agricultural commodities, and more
than a quarter of the North American crop is derived from biotechnology, just
like other food companies, we could have biotechnology ingredients in our
products.
Thank you for taking the time to contact Frito-Lay. We hope this
information is helpful.
