Subject: Thinking globally and living responsibly - About how "inspired" individuals
are making a huge difference in this world.
Hello everyone!
Long time no see. After lots of work in my garden, I have now a little bit more time
and will resume the preparation and sending of material to your attention - rest
assured at a summerly slow pace ;-)
So, here is what I've just prepared tonight for all of you.
ENJOY!!

Beloved women of the Earth Rainbow Network
I received this first email below from Anna Gyorgy 2 days ago and I felt most of you
would resonate deeply with its content. But then I also received another email (see
the second one below from Juanique) which spoke even louder to the core feeling I
have that women, or to be more precise, the feminine polarity of compassion, caretaking
and grounded oneness with Life which has been lacking for so long on our tormented
world are those/is what will save this world in the end.

Dear Jean,
I have found out about your work and resources from Steve Diamond. Please sign me
up to your Earth Rainbow Network list.
Currently I am helping develop an international women's network that will educate/act
on food security among other issues. We will be starting a web site prior to a first
major organizing meeting for interested women activists, organizers, experts in northeast North America on August 7th. I am attaching an introduction to the effort with
an announcement of this meeting. If there is someone in the region you can recommend
as a participant please let us know or pass this on.
Thanks for your important work,
Anna Gyorgy

Introducing
WOMEN AND LIFE ON EARTH
International Network on Ecology and Peace for the 21st Century
In September 1979 a group of New England women active in anti-nuclear, alternative
energy, peace and women's health work met to consider how their issues connected.
They discussed ecological feminism, looking at women and nature in the context
of social activism and change. They decided to work together as "Women and Life on Earth."
Their founding statement said, in part:
"We see connections between the exploitation and brutalization of the earth and her
people and the physical, economic and psychological violence that women face every
day. We want to understand and try to overcome the historical divisions of race,
poverty, class, age and sexual preference that have kept women apart and politically powerless.
Our concerns are many, but understanding the problems that confront us helps us imagine
how we would like to live.
"We are women whose lives and work demand a shared expression of a new vision for
society. The vision we seek to express and finally realize is an affirmative one.
Our hope for the future is based on a feminist perspective, a growing understanding
and appreciation of racial, sexual, and ecological diversity and an end to militarism. We
want to live in decentralized communities based on interdependence, self-reliance
and other basic ecological principles. These principles are not abstractions. They
are conditions for our survival."
The group organized a conference on ecological themes held at the spring solstice
of the new decade, attended by 600 women from the northeastern U.S. From that meeting
organizing began for the Women's Pentagon Action. In November 1980, 2,000 women encircled the Pentagon demanding "no more amazing inventions for death." WLOE activities
continued in the U.S. and Britain for several years.
Two decades later, on the cusp of a new millennium, several women involved in that
effort are calling an organizing meeting to establish a Women and Life on Earth Network,
first in northeast North America, but with the hope that it will expand nationally
and internationally.
Our undeniably ambitious goals are:
to cut through the blockade of mainstream media using new forms of contact, e-mail
and internet, along with old ones like word of mouth and human contact;
to recognize and promote the experience and knowledge of women and movements, locally
and world-wide, with a clearing-house for information, ideas and actions on:
PEACE countering the multiple assaults on women, children and the elderly, along
with environmental destruction;
FOOD SECURITY AND HEALTH production for sustainability; safe food, air and water
free of chemical, genetic or atomic pollution;
CLIMATE CHANGE preventing environmental disasters through renewable energy use, conservation
of energy and natural resources, sustainable transport, construction, development
and lifestyles;
GLOBALIZATION opposing corporate control and cultural destruction world-wide.
www.wloe.org
A Women and Life on Earth web site will offer introductory information on these topics,
also important articles, audio-visual materials, resources for children, and annotated
listings of publications, organizations and internet links for further research.
WLOE will seek out the best materials available from organizations and experts in
many countries in a variety of languages. Where resources are lacking, we will develop
them ourselves.
In the past 20 years there has been much research and work done world-wide on the
many problems that affect our lives and planet. There are many organizations and
networks. There have been international meetings and treaties. It has not been
enough. Women everywhere are affected by these issues. Let us see what we, together, can do
to reach and connect world-wide for education and action.
A founding meeting
To begin this effort, women peace and ecology activists and experts in northeast North
America will be invited to a day-long meeting on Saturday, August 7, 1999, in rural
western Massachusetts. The organizers propose consideration of the following questions: How are the issues we work on connected? By coordinating our efforts, how can
we be more effective? How can we organize a strong and efficient network and support
a sustainable community in our region? How can we connect and relate our efforts
to those of women activists nationally and internationally? How should we structure and
implement a Web site and future communications for the network?
Women interested in attending the meeting or receiving further information on the
network can e-mail us at the addresses below with a brief statement of your main
areas of interest and experience.

NOTE FROM JEAN: JUST A BIT OF EXPLAINING. I RECEIVED AN EMAIL (THAT INCLUDED A LONG
CC LIST OF PEOPLE IN SOUTH AFRICA) FROM OUR GOOD FRIEND JEREMY BURNHAM (OF CAPETOWN,
SA) -- WHO IS, BY THE WAY THE GUY WHO HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN GETTING ME TO THINK
ABOUT ORGANIZING AN EARTH CONCERT FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM, A SUGGESTION WHICH LED TO THE
VISION OF A GATHERING OF PEOPLE FROM ALL CULTURES TO CELEBRATE OUR ONENESS AND AFFIRM
AS ONE OUR WILL FOR PEACE. AND THEN TO THE CREATION OF THIS NETWORK AND THIS CONTINUED MIND-JOGGING EMAILING SERVICE. SO JEREMY WAS ANNOUNCING JUST A FEW DAYS AGO HIS DECISION
TO JOIN THE FLEDGING GREEN PARTY JUST FORMED IN SOUTH AFRICA FOR THE COMING JUNE
2nd ELECTION (CONTACT HIM AT <monkey@iafrica.com> IF YOU WANT TO HELP) AND I RESPONDED BACK TO HIM (AND HIS ENTIRE CC LIST) TO EXPRESS MY SUPPORT AND SUGGEST TO CHECK
THE NEW VERSION OF THE EARTH CHARTER (SEE AT www.earthcharter.org -- IT IS AN AMAZING
DOCUMENT!!) AS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION FOR THEIR POLITICAL PLATFORM. AND Juanique
RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS EMAIL and responded...

Jean
I am a personal friend of Jeremy, we met in South Africa, my home, and I am
presently in the United States, (South Carolina). I will be here for a
while, fulfilling dreams, growth and lessons as well as drawing energy from
the Northern side of the planet.
When you re-directed the mailing list to your website and I read it I was
deeply moved. I have no doubt that the right people will fit into their
given roles as far as the millenium is concerned. As a warrior for the
Earth one of my dreams is to play as crucial a role as I can in her changes.
I have felt it my destiny since birth and, if there is anything I can do to
help you from my present location ...( I dont know where your base is)
...please let me know.
(I LIVE IN NORTHERN QUEBEC)
I would not hesitate to become a representative or promoter for the cause of light,
peace and evolution. One of the dreams I have, so dominant it forms part of my essence
residing within and beyond my physical being, is devotion to the Earth, her preservation as well as everything involved in her and her people's salvation.
There is a great amount of futility surrounding my attempt to relay the
depth of my thougths regarding this cause to you.. The power and connection
among woman is still as much of a mystery as dolphin language, and in this I
take consolation that somehow you will understand my deep passion with
regard to my need to play any role that may be of assistance.
If you need me please let me know.
In love and light
Juanique
AND TO JUANIQUE I SAY:
There is no futility in trying to convey the deep-rooted sense that we came here for
a specific role and to assist as midwives in the birth of a new world. I've felt
the same unrelenting passionate urge for years and know - as undoubtedly also know
almost everyone on the ERN list reading this and countless others - in my bones and guts
what you mean.
I've received a number of unexpected offers like yours in the last few weeks of people
similarly moved to lend a helping hand in organizing something of the nature of the
Millennium Gathering - someone even offered sponsorship assistance. Yet, because
I concluded months ago that it appeared to be too late "in the game" to continue trying
to pull this mighty vision off the ground and also because I felt too much alone
here in dreaming such a dream of world unity, I could not really do much with those
kind offers.
But I must admit I did not persist in trying to secure funding, a key ingredient for
success as usual, after being denied financial support from the Canadian government
because I could not prove to them that this project would actually materialize (the
usual chick and the egg situation!). It would take only what it costs to build a 10 mile
stretch of paved road, $2 or $3 millions, to get this project rolling to a grand
finale. Sadly Canada is willing to shell $1 million a day (admitedly, but it's probably
more) of taxpayers money to throw bombs on Serbia and Kosovo and is unwilling to risk
a dime on funding an event that would undoubtedly contribute to create a powerful
momentum for peace on Earth and a rerouting of human ingenuity and attention towards
saving the endangered global environment and restoring human dignity - not to mention
decent living conditions - to the masses of people on Earth who have never been invited
to jump aboard the gravy train of greedy market capitalism now consuming the planet
for just a few more bucks for the megarich few already controlling half the world assets.
So... Could a miracle still be possible? Not necessarily to organize this one specific
vision of a grand gathering of men, women and children representing by their sheer
diversity the entire human family, but some event that would help make the entire
world *feel* as one, something that would reach almost every human, something that would
bring tears of joy rolling down everyone's cheeks and vibes of love radiating from
every heart as we would all realize that beyond all the petty differences we put
so much emphasis on, we are all one giant family, living with millions of other equally precious
species on a vibrantly alive and mightily loving planet. Could this happen if we
could somehow all pause for a moment from the endless rush forward? Could we manifest this vision of Peace and brotherly harmony sung by countless visionaries and seers
in this and past centuries?
Today is the 30th anniversary of the bed-in that John Lennon and Yoko Ono did in a
Montreal hotel where they recorded the song "All we are saying, is give Peace a chance..."
as seen tonight in the news. Maybe it's time we all - women, men and children - join hands and sing along this beautiful song so as to bring an end to the senseless,
unrelenting bombing of innocent people who have never elected the dictator and his
accomplices who for so long have wreaked havoc in the lives of so many people, and
finally put an end to all these wars and all this violence - everywhere, in the streets,
in the movies, in the media, in the families, in our hearts - that have maimed and
killed untold millions of innocent people and scarred all the rest of us in our minds
and souls.
Yes! All we are saying, is give Peace a chance...
We all speak the same "language" Juanique when we open our hearts and tune to the
divine song of Love welling up from our inner-universal connection as One with All
That Is - whether we are a male or a female, because, in fact, we are not this body,
this sacred temple used by a radiating crystalflame of Life as a temporary vehicle for experiencing
the dense vibrations of this material existence.
We are much much more than a mere assemblable of trillions of endlessly decaying cells.
We are the Unknown Within that seeks to express Itself through each one of us in
a multi-fragranced bouquet of infinitely diverse expressions of creativity and beauty.
And *this* is the real miracle of Life.

Hello there,
I am a member of PAN but have not been receiving anything from you in a
while, so I thought I'd ask to be added directly to your list.... Thanks.
Also - here's a piece of inspiration that I thought you might appreciate. It
came to me while out in my favorite place in nature last week.
Peace - Christine Kennedy
"I am complete in who I am. There is nothing lacking, nothing needed. I am
as full as the earth that sings her songs through her many different aspects:
the waters, the sky, the wind, the clouds, the rain, the thunder, the birds,
the trees, the grass, the rocks, the animals, the people.
I am as full as the planet, the earth, in her cycles and rhythms; her
turning, her day, her night. Nothing changes really - all is fullness no
matter what the season. One only needs to recognize the fullness that
exists.
I am as lush as the planet, as carefree as the earth, as structured and
timely as the elements of nature with their own intelligence, their own
timing. Even in the deserts of the earth there is fullness, lushness - the
fullness of the heat and sand, and the winds that whip across the seemingly
barren terrain.
Like the desert I have been seemingly barren - wind whipped and dry,
wandering in the fullness of the sand and sun, not seeing, not knowing my own
lushness; my underground well that holds the lushness of my own life; my own
inheritance of fullness waiting for the time to emerge.
My fullness awaits its expression. My fullness is bubbling up from its
underground cave; a holding den for the ripeness of its time. My fullness
knows it's time to allow the underground spring to find its outlet; to flow
into the rest of me, ripple out and merge into the lushness of the planet -
blending, merging, seeking oneness in the fullness, in the rhythm and delight
of the flow. My body knows it is time. My body knows its fullness and seeks
to express it in harmony with the other rhythms of life and the planet.
The rocks and boulders sing in harmony around me as if in a concert or
symphony. The trees stand in the delight of their song. The water ripples
with joy and gladness at the vibration of sound. The birds perch themselves
where they can join in the melody. The earth beneath embraces the rocks and
receives their deep pulsations, cradling the sound and the stones in her
bosom - never to forget the hum of life penetrating her. The dandelions
applaud to hear the lullaby and draw near to feel its comfort.
The earth moves and creates in silent symphony sung to the inhabitants of the
planet. The music is always there. We have become numb, forgetful, blasé.
We have lost our connection to the sounds of the universe that speak of
Light, of Source, of fullness, of purpose, of order, meaning and endless
maturation. We ARE the universe in human form gathering dust and decay. Our
knowing is hidden in the underground cave of our hearts that longs to sing
with the universe, to travel amongst the stars, and breath in the life that
permeates everything that surrounds us.
Creation is so full. How did we become dead.... Creation speaks to us daily
and we do not hear the music. We do not hear creation calling to us - to
play with her, to sing her tunes, her life, and dance her dance. We have
forgotten the music. Where did it go... How did we lose it.... What
muffled and snuffed it out.... Why are we so dead to the music of life....
The final act is upon us and we must awaken to the sound, hear the beat and
dance into the cavern of our hearts - keeping time to the rhythm within us
that longs to sing to US, to heal US, awaits for US to awaken. We ARE
creation and long to be in harmony with the created others. We long for the
oneness of creation. How simple life would be if we all saw ourselves as one
with creation. How the hostilities would drop away; the prejudices that keep
us separate, divided, different, unreconciled and unresolved would lose their
power. We could all sing in harmony - all different instruments and
different sounds, but playing together in the grand symphony, creating the
music of the spheres: The Oneness of the Universe orchestrated by the Light
of the One. The Light that knows all and loves all no matter what sound you
make, or dance you dance, or thought you think, or action you take, or word
that you speak - because all is part of the symphony of the planet that adds
to the symphony of the stars, that adds to the symphony of the other planets,
galaxies and realms....
Such a calling:
Singing my tune in harmony with other tunes, in harmony with other tunes, in harmony
with other tunes in an ever unfolding sound ripple, sound wave, reaching back to
Source - the wellspring within our own hearts.
Peace and Blessings

We are the Lightworkers Tribe. We are everywhere on this Planet. In every
country, on every continent. In the cities. In the small towns and villages
in the countryside.
We are of different ages, races, and religions, and are found in all walks
of life.
Among the many beliefs that we share are:
-- We know why we are here, why we have incarnated at this time and place...
-- We are here to help spread the Light, in one form or another. It is an
inner kind of direction which hundreds of thousands of us share
intuitively. It does not come from any books or directives from other
people...
-- We are here incarnated to help improve Planetary conditions for our
fellow humans...
Some might call it the Boddhisattva Brigade...
Each one of us has self-selected our own "assignment" in conjunction, of
course, with our karmic destiny and the wishes of The Great Spirit, Our
Creator...
As G. I. Gurdjieff once said, "the only true initiation is self-initiation."
The Lightworkers Tribe exists independent of any leaders, so called, or any
one, over-arching organization. There are literally hundreds of thousands
of organizations whose goals are similar and whose belief systems are
shared.
As such, each individual Lightworker is "the leader."
We "think global, act local."
We "question authority."
We "practice random kindness, and spontaneous acts of beauty."
We shout "No Nukes!" whenever we get the chance.
Our goal is to "Save The Planet," pure and simple.
Our song is "Give Peace A Chance."
Our favorite color is: all colors of the rainbow.
II. Consensus Reality v. Lightworker Reality
-- Belief in The One God...
-- The Lightworkers Tribe is as "real" as your local massage therapist's
office, the corner organic health food store, your town's meditation or
yoga center, or your state's Green Party candidate...
Our belief is that all people are created by The One God. And therefore all
people carry the Divine Spark, or Divine Fragment, within them.
We are working to make the preceding concept the hallmark of life on this
Planet...
Perhaps someone you know is a Lightworker, someone close to you... someone
in your office, a son, or a daughter, or a neighbor. We are everywhere, all
over the planet.
Perhaps by the time you finish reading this, you will see the Lightworker
in you!
You might be a follower of Ramtha, Rosicrucianism, Roman Catholicism,
Ramakrishna, or Rotary -- regardless of your school or social affiliations,
your aim is to serve humanity by spreading The Light.
The Light we/you are spreading is the understanding of The One. "Toward The
One."
"Never doubt that a small group of dedicated individuals can change the
world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead said
that.
(The members of my tribe took up a collection many years ago to send me to
your schools so that I could learn to write in your language in order to
inform your civilization about our mystical tribe. Perhaps in my reporting
on the Lightworkers Tribe you will see something of yourselves, as if
looking in a mirror. )
Occasionally I am forced to say or write something you might consider too
outlandish, or even "impossible."
For example -- some day the Peace Industry will replace the War Industry,
as the industry with the largest volume of cash expenditures on Earth.
Impossible, you will say, outlandish!
Which is how "they" have conditioned you to think.
"They" don't allow you to even consider another possible way-- because if
you change your way of thinking, you will change the world. Or at least
change the way people live here on earth.
Who are "they" you might ask? "They" are the servants of The Dark. They are
themselves slaves to war, violence, greed, competitiveness, enslavement,
materiality. "They" thrive on destruction, fear, anger and
self-centeredness.
But even The Dark, and its hierarchy of masters and servants, still owes
its existence to The One God. This can sometimes be a difficult idea to
accept, especially by the forces of The Dark themselves.
But how can it be otherwise? If God is really One, and God created all, It,
i.e. God, must have created both of those themes we call good and evil. As
well, God created free will, for each individual to chose, to exercise that
free will in making the "right" choice to work for the Good of All.
-- We believe that it IS possible to feed the world's population, through
the appropriate distribution of wealth and natural resources.
-- We believe that in the near future, hunger, and starvation will have
been eliminated. Similarly, we believe that access to food, clothing,
shelter, and health care are a basic human right, and that the provision of
same are the duty of the world's governmental structures.
-- We anticipate (prayerfully) the day when the world's War Industry will
be converted to a Peace Industry.
Imagine half of the world's military budget redirected to peaceful/civilian
purposes i.e. the aforementioned food, clothing, education, and healthcare
-- and other half allocated to space exploration. the latter, could
accomodate the world's military systems into a planetary space exploration
corps.
(Uh-oh, have I crossed over your "outlandish" line? Are you murmuring the
word "impossible" as you read these lines?)
"Impossible" as was human flight at one time, and yet today thousands of
airline flights are happening each and every day.
Perhaps feeding the planet, currently an "impossibility" in your
estimation, will also become ONE DAY as commonplace as flying from Los
Angeles to Boston and back.
Another one of the paradoxes involved with the Lightworkers Tribe is that
Everyone is a member, they might not have woken up to it yet.
Just as we say "Namaste," a Sanskrit word which means "I salute the
Divinity in you," upon meeting friend or stranger, so too we acknowledge
the presence of the Divine Spark within every living creature, human,
animal or plant.
Perhaps some are more aware of it within themselves, thus allowing the
spark to glow a little brighter. Others perhaps, haven't the least clue
that the God Force that created them and gives them life, had left a tiny
ember burning deep within each human soul, even in those who might be
unknowing.
Theirs is the joy and wonder to discover it, sooner or later, this lifetime
or the next or even the one after that. But discover that fragment of the
Divine they surely will, eventually, they will find it deep within,
resting, glowing, burning, "lighting" from within.
For discovering the God Within, is another facet of the Jewel of Life, and
another unstated goal of the Lightworker's existence.
And not only discovering the Divine Spark within herself, or himself, but
within all beings, all life forms -- this is the raison d'etre of
Lightworkers everywhere.
That is why we are here.
This is our mission.
To discover, and to acknowledge the Divine within all life, children,
women, men, animals, leaves, trees, oceans and stars.

From: Palden Jenkins <palden@globalnet.co.uk>
Hello Steve and Jean!
Thanks for that. Generally good stuff!
Wearing my metaphysical editor's hat, I have just three points to make:
* on a talk show in UK not long ago, the (top) interviewer Michael
Parkinson asked the Dalai Lama whether he believed in God. The Dalai
Lama's answer was "No" - and smiling. That stopped the conversation and
caused Parky to lose control of the situation! (That is, from the
viewpoint of your statement: stressing the belief in God excludes
Buddhists, who, especially if they adhere to the Bodhisattva Vow, are major
'lightworkers' and peace-workers who often put God-freaks to shame!).
* We "question authority." Yes, but.... I would add something like:
"and in our commitment to truth, we also question any knee-jerk
anti-authoritarian standpoints we come up with"! That is, 'lightworking'
and anti-authoritarianism don't truly mix! Anti-authoriarianism is an ego
response, usually more to do with our own fathers than with what we think
it is. 'Lightworking' involves a challenge to see Wholeness and understand
all viewpoints, does it not? After all, the Taliban in Afghanistan believe
also that they are working for the light of God.
* You do actually make the following point:
>But even The Dark, and its hierarchy of masters and servants, still owes
>its existence to The One God. This can sometimes be a difficult idea to
>accept, especially by the forces of The Dark themselves.
>
>But how can it be otherwise? If God is really One, and God created all, It,
>i.e. God, must have created both of those themes we call good and evil. As
>well, God created free will, for each individual to chose, to exercise that
>free will in making the "right" choice to work for the Good of All.
I'd suggest this is one of the most important points in your rap. Many
folks erroneously buy into the belief that 'lightworking' involves
opposition to 'darkness'. It doesn't. Or if it does, it breaks the 'Prime
Directive' and denies that manifestations of the 'hand of God' can take
many forms, and that human judgement has its errors and limitations.
Perhaps the point needs making more strongly that we need to acknowledge
the 'darkness' within ourselves as a valuable and necessary part of us
(otherwise it is projected unconsciously and 'un-owned' - and *it causes
wars*) and that, since 'darkness' as a part of Wholeness, many folks need
also to shed the "God and America" illusion (the medieval idea that 'God is
on our side and They are the forces of darkness')'. This illusion has
been very evident during the current Balkans crisis, where meditators have
been getting dangerously oppositional and confused in their thinking - even
buying into considerable dollops of disinformation and propaganda.
Opposition to 'darkness' strengthens it, as you will know. So I suggest
this issue needs treating thoroughly!
Wishing well. Keep up the good work. Sorry to be pernickety, but actually
the above are quite important issues!

Ervin Laszlo, and its Honorary Members include the Dalai Lama, Vaclav
Havel, Arthur C. Clarke, Mikhail Gorbachev, Edgar Mitchell, Peter
Russell, Willis Harman (late), Thomas Berry, and many other
international leaders in the arts, religion and science. The Club's
purpose is to promote and facilitate the evolution of planetary
consciousness, which is more defined in its charter (excerpt from site

"The First Global Census on the evolution of Planetary Consciousness is a Web-based
interactive project promoted by The Club of Budapest in collaboration with The Grauso
Foundation. These non-profit humanistic organizations invite all people who visit
this site to review its materials and, if they are in agreement with its contents and
endorse its spirit, to become Signatories. Thereby, they take part in the Global
Census and receive a certificate attesting their approval and adoptation of the Spirit
of Planetary Consciousness.
We believe that we are at a critical juncture in our history: global thinking and
responsible living have become a precondition of a better future, even of our survival.
People who think globally and live responsibly have a new consciousness of themselves, of others, of nature and the universe. We call this "Planetary Consciousness".
People of Planetary Consciousness live in all parts of the world. They are of all
ages, and they come from all backgrounds. They need to know about each other in order
to implement reciprocal empowerment and share human interest. This is why The Club
of Budapest and The Grauso Foundation undertake this First Global Census on Planetary Consciousness."
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT INITIATIVE ISN'T IT!
LET US ALL ENDORSE IT AND SIGN THE CENSUS AND CIRCULATE THIS TO OUR FRIENDS.
