Hello everyone

As expected, the recent post entitled "To tune out or face up to what's wrong on Earth" has prompted several interesting comments (included below), for which I'm very grateful - as will also certainly be everyone else on this list.

Enjoy ;-)

Dear Jean,

I agree with your view completely. I have been in 'denial' much of my life
about the chaos of the world. As long as it didn't knock on my door I could
hide behind my rose-colored glasses. It is a blessing to be informed as it
opens our hearts fully and empowers us to enact change through our loving
intent when focused in prayer and meditation. I also agree with John's view
and believe there is a balance between the two as you so eloquently offer.

I love you dear one and the gracious service you provide to your ever growing
spiritual community.

God Bless,

Jean,

This subject really "stirred up" my feelings in a challenging way, yet one which
also was powerfully and positively exciting. Harmony, Disharmony, facing up
to what's wrong on earth... where to begin? Well, I began with a quote from Albert
Einstein floating around in my consciousness: "We will not solve the problems
of the world from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them".

This, in turn, lead to a search on Google on the terms "holographic consciousness".
I was exploring this site and that, when suddenly my intuition honed in on a
particular webpage entitled "A Melting Pot of Gems"; "yes, yes!" I cried to
myself excitedly as I began reading it.

"This is really what I want to say!"

Well, erm...what I really want to quote just happens to come from a webpage
on your own site! So I truly went full-circle here. If I may be permitted?

A Melting Pot of Gems

And, in particular, this section:

(NOTE FROM JEAN: This excerpt below is part of a "Back to the Future" reflexion sent by Cheri Yamamoto <cheriwhy@hawaii.rr.com> and available at the abovementioned URL)

"One way or another, the earth has to be cleared of the mentality of waste and limitation which engenders disease and the fear-control cycle so it may move toward a mentality of regeneration and abundance. I believe that the new pattern which emerges, either through the experience of disaster and chaos or through new realizations of community consciousness, must be a transcendent experience akin to the experience of ascension. It will likely be a holographic experience in which we will be consciously connected as a community of beings for common purpose.

The whole picture of relationships would suddenly be comprehensible, as holographic consciousness allows connection with all information everywhere all the time: one simply knows. Right now, the issues of the planet seem so complex and incomprehensible to most, that we cannot know the consequences of our actions. Einstein again: "The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible." In other words, once you can see the whole, what was previously complex becomes simple. So, for the planet to be healed, there must be a world-wide expansion of consciousness to encompass the global community. This happens in small, comprehensible communities across the globe and builds momentum geometrically, just as synapses in the brain and fibers of networks on the Internet expand awareness until they reach a critical mass for the shifts to occur more and more rapidly. As this momentum builds, we will be able to tackle the larger issues as a whole systems solution because our consciousness will be at a different level than when we created the problems.

One more Einstein piece of wisdom to hammer home the point: "We will not solve the problems of the world from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them."

Kind of smiling here,

Harmony

Subject: Re: To tune out or face up to what's wrong on Earth

G'day Jean!
Just a quick email to support your efforts to pursue actions to address pressing
issues. It is something I'm dealing with too, especially as I watch myself and how
hard it is to make changes to actions when in a country with relatively few
problems. It seems yourself and the Meditation group are faced with a decision.

I sat quiet yesterday and tuned in to the actions of 70 million visiting the River
Ghanges and what is spoken of happening on a Spiritual level. When I asked the
outcome of such a noted event, the answer was quite simply that nothing will change
until the actions change, ie spiritual awareness made manifest.

The test is whether the people making the pilgrimage change their actions after
leaving, and how long for. Why do we as a race need 'awesome' alignment of planets
and energies to trigger a change in thought and change in action?

A friend doing her PhD on the connection of mind and health told me how research has
shown a bad tasting pill is more effective than a good tasting one - the placebo
effect. A more complicated therapy is more effective than a simple one because the
patient perceives it to be doing more. A more complicated and fancy religion with
fantastic jargon is often perceived as being more 'effective' for the same reason!
But the truth about life is not hard or complicated! But if you make it seem so,
then you can charge more money for it, and/or control the masses.

So, I'm off to explore more simple actions, eg. I have halved our sections use of
paper from 5 boxes to 2-3 boxes per week, simply by letting everyone know that they
can select an option in their print menu that allows them to print two pages to a
page (and even double sided).

Simple mental action - Big physical change.

May I suggest a section on the Meditation page, or yours, where you feature the
physical action success stories readers are making that make a difference. Our
actions are so powerful in helping others see what is possible, and also that it is
OK to do such actions. I strongly recommend a great experience to prove this - next
time at the beach, park or forest, pick up more than your own rubbish, clean up
rubbish that is not yours (metaphysically it actually still is). It does wonders,
it gives a big 'OK' signal to others to do similar. Lets face it, we are all
compassionate caring beings at Heart, and all want a clean comfy world, but we hold
back for fear of what the 'others' will think, and many other reasons.

Keep up the good work,

NOTE FROM JEAN: I wholeheartedly support dAvE's most excellent suggestion and stand ready to begin compiling the "physical action success stories" you'll kindly share with me/us and then post them in a special new section of the ERN website. As soon as I've received 10 such success stories, I'll post them and let you all know so you can go read them.

LATER ON, dAvE WROTE THIS AFTER I CONFIRMED TO HIM MY SUPPORT FOR HIS SUGGESTION:

Excellent!
We have so many websites telling us what to do, it will be really great to read what
IS being done on a physical level, what is working etc. Don't take this as a
criticism to what the websites are telling us to do metaphysically, we certainly do
need them, and more, but I think you know what I mean. Time to take it to the next
level and help remind and motivate all of us that small efforts in our own
'backyard' is where it all starts.

I think you will be flooded with some really heart warming stories that will be a
great read. And it will be a welcomed reward for our efforts as we all like to see
and feel that a change for the better is happening.

Its a great time to be alive!

Anchor and Shine!

I loved your answer to John Cox! And I think Matthew Webb is mostly

Dear Jean & Shama,

Thank you for reminding us of the power of "Universal Love Vibration".
I personally can testify to the workings of this great power on people and
situations that seem to be blatanly negative. From my observations of
sending Universal Love (brow center to heart center) to a so called enemy it
seems that those who are used to operating in a greed power realm have no
idea what to do with this vibration. They simply and plainly cannot use it
in any way or manner that will bring harm to anyone or thing. What a
tremendous protection to those that send this vibration. But on the other
hand if you get upset and angry you'll get pulled into their negative energy
stream (3rd center) and they win because they'll take your energy and use it
against you because they're ruthless and masters at this sort of
manipulation. I have found that I can't win if I operate out of that center
because I'm not ruthless.

Thanks again and much Love to all,

The American Anti-Slavery Group today announced an urgent campaign against
the practice of gang raping female slaves in South Sudan. The announcement
follows evidence of mass rapes gathered by the Swiss-based human rights
organization, Christian Solidarity International (CSI). CSI rights workers
just returned from a slave redemption mission in Sudan and gathered
evidence of atrocities against women taken as slaves. (see CSI document
below.)

AASG President Charles Jacobs said, "we had heard these stories off and on
through the years, but only with the sort of evidence our partners in CSI
produced yesterday can we proceed to act."

Jacobs said, "the gang rapes of slave women in South Sudan are a crime
against humanity. The world reacted strongly to this horror in Kosovo. We
expect the same response when the victims are black African women."

Jacobs said the AASG will seek an immediate meeting with American feminist
leaders -- some of whom have been showing concern about the enslavement of
women and children in Sudan, Africa's largest nation.

He said, new initiatives in U.S. policy were called for by the evidence.

"This mass, violent, humiliating abuse of women should force us to consider
how to protect African villages from Khartoum's "holy war." The National
Islamic Front regime in Khartoum declared a "holy war" to Islamize and
Arabize the non-Muslim and moderate African Muslim populations in Sudan.
Congress has called this a "genocide." Over 2 million have been killed and
tens of thousands have been enslaved by "holy warriors."

Jacobs said his organization would join others who care about South Sudan
and take this issue to President Elect George W. Bush.

CSI Press Release December 22, 2000

Sudanese Government Troops Gang-rape Black African Slaves ,119 More Slaves
Liberated by CSI

(Marial Bai, Geneva, Zurich, Dec. 22, 2000) Soldiers of the Government of
Sudan's Popular Defence Forces (PDF) systematically gang-rape enslaved
black African women and girls during and after slave raids on villages in
Southern Sudan, according to the testimonies of scores of ex-slaves
recorded last week by CSI and independent researchers. Many of the
liberated slaves bore thick, herniated scares, especially in the area of
the breasts, that were the result of mutilation committed by rapists.

The following women were among those gang-raped repeatedly by their armed
captors:

20-year-old Aluel Mangong Deng: I was enslaved five years ago during a raid
on my village, Agok. I tried to run away from the soldiers, but they caught
me and threw me to the ground. I struggled to get away, so they held down
my hands and feet and cut my throat and chest with a knife. As I grew
faint, one of them named Mohammed raped me then and there. That night, I
was again raped by different men. They came one after another. This also
happened to other women, and even to young girls. It took up about 30 days
before we reached Poulla, north of Babanusa. This kind of rape happened
just about every day along the way.

30-year-old Abuk Malek Ador: I was captured in 1998. During the raid, all
the men were killed. Only children and women were driven to the North. Most
of those killed were murdered with axes or knives. On the way to the North,
I was raped by many soldiers. My daughter (2-year-old Akuel) is the product
of these sexual assaults. I do not known who her father is because there
were so many rapists.

33-year-old Arek Garang Peath: I was captured last year. I was gang-raped
and my children were beaten. In Kerieu, was given to Abdullah. He
encouraged his sons to rape me. All of them raped me. So did their friends.
Whenever I tried to resist, I was brutally beaten.

These victims of multiple gang-rape were among 4,119 slaves redeemed by CSI
representatives John Eibner and Gunnar Wiebalck in four locations in
northern Bahr El Ghazal, Sudan between the 13th and 18th of December. Since
1995, 42,537 slaves have been liberated through the cooperative efforts of
CSI, Southern Sudanese Community leaders and local Baggara Arabs. The
leaders of the black African communities affected by the Government of
Sudan's slave raids estimate that over 100,000 of their people remain in
bondage in Northern Sudan.

In his Jubilee Year Christmas Appeal to the UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights, Mrs. Mary Robinson, CSI's International President, the Revd. Hans
St˝ckelberger, reaffirms CSI's obligation 'to proclaim liberty to the
Captives', and urges the Commission on Human Rights to support: 1) the High
Commissioner's proposal for "preventative action ÷ to disarm militias which
abduct people for enslavement" in Sudan, and 2) the establishment of a
mechanism for the prosecution of those guilty of the enslavement of black
African women and children, and gang rape, both of which are recognized war
crimes. (end)

Dear Friends,

If you are interested in education for peace and in the cause of peace in the Middle East, I hope you will be interested in MidEast Web. MidEast Web is a volunteer organization registered as an NGO in Israel begun in August 1999. It began from an e-conversation between myself and an Internet guru in Amman, Jordan, Ameen Hannoun, and the initiative of an Israeli father, Yisrael Zamir, who lost his son in the 1982 Lebanon war. Our idea was to use the Internet to bring people together for peace, to spread the idea of coexistance and peace education.

Through MidEast Web it has been my privilege to meet Hagit Ra'anan and many other people who are working for the cause of peace and dialog, and trying to make Israelis and Palestinians realize each other's humanity. We have helped to bring many people together for dialog, to help the handicapped and to tell the stories of individuals and groups who are working for peace in the Middle East, despite the odds. It is a long and difficult way, but we hope to win friends for the cause of peace in the middle east one by one, and built a world-wide-web support web for peace, that can counter the forces of darkness and violence that surround us.

You can join our mailing list by writing to mideastweb@mideastweb.org You will get the PeaceWatch commentary which is also on the Web at http://www.ariga.com/peacewatch, and news about peace and dialog activities. You can also contribute articles and comments.

You can join an open dialog group by sending e-mail to mideastwebdialog-subscribe@egroups.com.

We also offer a new MEWNews news service, featuring balanced news about the Middle East. You can join by sending e-mail to MEWNews-subscribe@egroups.com

Please visit our web site at http://www.mideastweb.org. to find out more. We have had over 100,000 visitors in less than a year and a half. At the site you will find news about dialog activities and peace education as well as news of the area, maps, history, links, a large bibiliography and a culture page. We also host Web sites for the Hope Flowers School, for Hagit Ra'anan and for the Bereaved Families Forum started by Yitzhak Frankenthal.

Thanks for your attention.

See you at MidEast Web.

FDA Passes on Bio-food Labels
Reuters - Jan. 10, 2001

The Clinton administration was poised to update its biotech food rules and
require U.S. companies to meet with regulators before taking a new product
to market, but will not require special labels on bio-foods, industry
sources said Wednesday.

The Food and Drug Administration was been working on revising the
regulations for months as part of an attempt to reassure American consumers
that genetically modified foods are safe and developed under the agency's
supervision.

The FDA was expected to issue the rules as early as Thursday, according to
food industry sources.

The agency rejected demands by environmental and consumer groups to require
labels on foods with gene-altered ingredients, preferring to offer
guidelines for any companies that may wish to use labels, the sources said.

The agency rejected demands by environmental and consumer groups to require
labels on foods with gene-altered ingredients, preferring to offer
guidelines for any companies that may wish to use labels, the sources said.
Most European and Asian nations, including Britain and Japan, require such
labels.

U.S. foodmakers have opposed any form of mandatory labels, saying that
grocery shoppers would misinterpret them as indicating the food is not as
safe as conventional products.

Food companies also contend that if consumers want more information about
bio-foods, they have access to plenty of material on the Internet, in
brochures, and through toll-free company telephone numbers.

"We think the proposed rule will make the existing regulatory system more
transparent," said Gene Grabowski, a spokesman for the Grocery Manufacturers
of America, a trade group representing most U.S. major foodmakers.

"While we have a safe regulatory system, a lot of consumers haven't really
understood it very well," he said.

Grabowski said that American consumers were not very concerned about
gene-altered foods, based on industry surveys.

"If consumers ever change their mind, then we'll take another look at it,"
he said, referring to mandatory labels. "We don't stay in business without
being responsive to consumers."

An FDA spokeswoman said the proposed rule would not be issued on Thursday.

Currently, Monsanto Co. , Aventis SA and other companies developing new
varieties of gene-altered corn, soybeans, squash, tomatoes and other crops
have the option of holding "voluntary consultations" with the agency before
marketing a product. The new rules will make that process mandatory.

The industry maintains that developers of new foods typically spend years
and conduct dozens of internal studies to evaluate if the products are safe
and commercial.

But consumer groups say even mandatory consultations do not go far enough to
ensure safe bio-foods.

The FDA's existing rules for biotech foods were developed nearly a decade
ago when the industry was in its infancy and the potential of the technology
had not yet been realized.

At that time, the FDA decided to classify bio-foods as being no different
from conventional foods. Under that regulatory approach, special labels are
not required unless a food's nutritional content is changed or some other
significant change is made.

The recall last autumn of hundreds of American foods found to contain traces
of StarLink bio-corn -- a variety not approved for human use -- raised new
questions about U.S. biotech regulations.

The Consumer Federation of America was set to issue a new report on Thursday
recommending mandatory labels and other ways to improve U.S. biotech food
regulations.

The group said the FDA's regulatory approach has too few health and
environmental safety checks, and does not give the public enough
information.

Bio-foods should be treated more like food additives, the federation said.
FDA rules for food additives require strict, independent safety testing over
a period of time.

Safety tests, while performed by companies privately for gene-spliced foods,
are not required under current FDA rules.

"Products declared 'substantially equivalent' do not require any safety
testing before they are sold to the public," said Foreman, a food safety
expert with the federation. "Not surprisingly, all of the products now on
the market were declared by their manufacturer to be substantially
equivalent and safe."

Last month, a panel of American and European biotech experts urged the U.S.
government to adopt stricter regulations. The recommendations were released
at a U.S.-EU meeting on trade and other issues.

Legislation is also expected to be introduced this year in Congress to
prevent StarLink or another unapproved biotech ingredient from slipping into
the food supply. Sen. Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat, and Rep. Dennis
Kucinich, an Ohio Democrat, have led unsuccessful attempts for tighter
rules.

StarLink is one of several so-called Bt corn varieties engineered to repel
pests that attack young plants.

Subject: DEA getting close to *banning* hemp foods and cosmetic products
Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001

Dear Friend,

The DEA has now officially announced that it intends to ban most hemp
products in the United States, including food made from sterile
(non-psychoactive) hemp seeds and hemp-based personal-care products.
Whether or not you expressed your outrage in October when we first heard
about the DEA's plans, please visit http://www.SaveHemp.org now to send an
updated pre-written letter to all of your elected officials and the DEA.
(Many legislators who are now in office were not in office in October. In
addition, legislators who contacted the DEA in October on behalf of their
constituents were told that there wasn't any official proposal to ban
hemp-which is no longer true. Visit http://www.SaveHemp.org to send your
second round of letters today!)

Under the DEA's proposed regulation, literally millions of Americans will be
criminalized for possessing shampoos, lotions, and soaps that have the
slightest amount of naturally occurring THC, the primary active ingredient
in marijuana. (It is impossible to get a psychoactive effect from hemp-based
shampoos and soaps, but the DEA is proposing to ban them nevertheless.)
Those who are arrested for shampoo or soap will face up to one year in
federal prison and a $10,000 fine-the same penalties they would face if they
were arrested for possessing a small amount of marijuana.

If someone is arrested with a stockpile of (currently legal) hemp products
that weighs hundreds of pounds, it stands to reason that the defendant would
face a 5- or 10-year mandatory minimum prison sentence-or even the death
penalty-under federal law.

There are already 700,000 arrests every year in the U.S. for marijuana
offenses. Our nation's beleaguered criminal justice system doesn't need the
additional strain of processing 100,000's of additional arrests that will
result from the illegal possession of non-psychoactive shampoos and soaps.
We don't need another front in our nation's failed war on drugs.
Please oppose the DEA's hemp ban before it is allowed to take effect.
In urgency,

Coalition to Save Hemp

A WILD HORN SECTION
The Cameroon government, World Wildlife Fund, and World Conservation Union (IUCN) are planning a rescue mission to save the last 10 Western black rhinos in Africa. Western black rhinos are a subspecies of the African black rhino, one of the last four rhino species on the continent; three other rhino species have already gone extinct. As recently as the early 1980s, Western black rhinos numbered 3,000, but since then poaching has caused the population to plummet. The rhinos' horns are prized in Asia for their medicinal properties. Conservationists hope to bring the population up to 50 by mid-century. In other endangered species news, scientists in Worcester, Mass., are eagerly awaiting the birth of the first cloned endangered species -- a wild ox native to Southeast Asia called a gaur. Bessie the cow would be the proud surrogate mother.

PINCH ME!
In something out of a dream for environmentalists, U.S. Forest Service Chief Mike Dombeck yesterday barred cutting of all old-growth trees on national forests. Andy Stahl, head of Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics, said the policy could have greater impact than the rule released last week by the Clinton administration to ban road-building on 58.5 million acres of national forestland. Dombeck's decision sends a clear message to the incoming Bush administration, which has indicated that it won't place such emphasis on land conservation. Dombeck has the right to remain in office 120 days after President Bush is inaugurated, and one of his top aides said Dombeck had no intention of resigning. Unlike the regulation banning road-building, the policy announced yesterday doesn't have the force of law, but it would remain in effect until reversed by a new Forest Service chief.
