Subject: Another global meditation + The Peace Troubadour in East Timor + Some feedbacks + Frankenfood Industry Under Attack

Hello everyone

Wow! the full moon last night was absolutely splendid and sooo bright with all the snow here in Northern Quebec. I hope you also had a chance to enjoy this unique experience (as explained in the last email).

Now I think you'll read with great interest the material in this compilation. I have another Green Files which is ready and coming your way soon and a special ET Files in preparation. But no more Y2K updates for now. The next Y2K related information you'll get from me will be after January 1st when I'll start monitoring the actual outcome of it all and, as usual, your reports on the situation locally and globally will be most welcomed and shared with everyone else. Don't be surprised though when the first email you'll receive from me will be only a "Test", just to see how many will bounce back - if the Internet still works!? - before I resume sending you my long compilations. But for now...

Merry Christmas & Happy New Millennium to all of you

May all your victories be tall,
And all your troubles be small.
May all your love be returned,
And none of your affections spurned.
May all your experiences be positive,
And none of your diagnoses negative.
May you reach the stars,
And not just gaze from afar.

Happy Holidays and lots of Love to all of you

The Peace Troubadour in East Timor
By James F. Twyman

There I was, a mobile phone pressed against one ear, sitting in front of
forty or so East Timorese refugees in Darwin, at the same time speaking to
tens of thousands of people around the world. I had to stop for a moment
and wonder what it all meant, and to realize just how far we had all come
in such a short period of time. We can say that the world has changed, or
that it is in the process of changing, and we can even judge what that
change means. But the fact that hundreds of thousands of people can turn on
their computers at the same time and pray together, responding as one heart
and mind to a crisis like the one taking place in East Timor, told me that
the world is changing for the better, and that technology can help.

I have had many opportunities to use the Internet to promote peace through
prayer. It began for me in February of 1998 when the world braced itself
for another terrible collision with Iraq. No peaceful solution seemed
possible, yet a call went out around the world through the Internet to stop
and focus on peace at the same time I would be performing "The Peace
Concert" on national Iraqi television. Millions of people responded, and
three days later a peace accord was signed. A sigh of relief was heard
round the world.

Other coordinated vigils took place over the next year for conflicts in
Northern Ireland, Israel, Bosnia, Serbia, and Kosovo. Each time the
Internet became the tool of mass attention and communication, spreading the
word like wildfire throughout the world. During each one of these vigils I
was in each country helping focus the energies, and each time, as people
turned on their computers and logged onto, an electronic
pulse sent waves of light spreading across the globe. It felt as if a
revolution had begun, a revolution that was linking the world through an
invisible web of electrons.

The most visible sign of this revolution of prayer came on April 23, 1998,
the same day I had been invited to deliver a speech to around forty
ambassadors at the UN building in New York. A month earlier I was having a
conversation with Gregg Braden (Awakening to Zero Point, Walking Between
the Worlds), and Doreen Virtue (Angel Therapy), and we discussed the
possibility of using the Internet to prove that prayer has the power to
change the world. What would happen, we asked, if millions of people
stopped at the same moment and "felt" peace, then asked that feeling to
extend like a wave of light around the globe? Could we actually prove
scientifically what the saints and sages have said to us for thousands of

Between five and ten million people in at least eighty countries
participated in what was called "The Great Experiment." Minutes before the
ambassadors arrived in the room where the talk was to be held the event
organizers and I stopped to say a prayer. When we were finished a woman
stepped to the center of the circle and said, "Four years, four months,
four weeks and four days ago, a group of Hopi elders were invited to the UN
to give their vision of the New World. One of the things that they said was
that four years, four months, four weeks and four days from then something
wold happen in this very building that would forever change the world. This
was the day these wise people foresaw."

We are indeed proving what we have always known, that we have the
power to change the world simply by changing our thoughts about the world.
And technology has an important role to play in this revolution. When
thousands or millions of people use a medium like the Internet to focus on
peace, nothing else can stand in the way. Though it is only a symbol of the
true web of consciousness that binds us together and makes us one, it is a
powerful symbol, one that should be used with a powerful intent.

I had arrived in Darwin, Australia the afternoon before the World Wide
prayer vigil for East Timor on September ?. My original goal was to anchor
the prayers from the beleaguered island, but continued instability
prevented our entering the region. I traveled with two Australian women,
Zumaya and Grace, and we immediately set about the task of finding the
refugee camp and hopefully gaining entry.

I had encountered the same situation months earlier during the war in
Kosovo. I arrived in Mecadonia with no invitation and no credentials. And
yet fate was on my side and I was able to join the tens of thousands of
refugees within hours. We hoped for the same luck in Darwin, but every door
we knocked on remained closed. The camp had been quarantined, we were told,
and no one was being let in or out. The only exception was the pastoral
care team made up of four Catholic priests.

I have learned in the past to follow the signs, even when they don't seem
to be leading anywhere-especially when they don't seem to be leading
anywhere. You can't really plan a peace mission like this. It's one of the
great life-lessons-show up and see what happens. Surrender everything and
trust that you'll be in the right place at the right time. And most of all,
give up your ideas of what that should look like, because no matter what,
it will be different than you think. That's what makes it so exciting. The
afternoon and evening before the prayer vigil was no exception to this
rule. After twenty or so phone calls we were no nearer a solution. There
was no way to get into the camp, so it seemed, and the vigil was hours
away. That night Zumaya and I decided to go for a walk and "trust" what
happened. We didn't have a plan since every plan we made had failed. What
would we lose hanging around some of the local hotels keeping our ears open?

I had learned two important lessons in the past, lessons of vital
importance to any wandering peace troubadour-always stick with the press
(they always know where to go, what areas are safe and what areas aren'tů),
and eavesdrop on as many conversations as possible. There is a strange sort
of gypsy community that hangs around war-zones made up of aid workers,
reporters and various United Nations personnel. It is not uncommon to meet
the same people over and over, depending, of course, on which areas are hot
and which areas are not. These are the real professionals, and they are the
always the best source of pertinent information.

That night we learned many things, most important regarded a hotel in the
area that supposedly housed around thirty refugees from East Timor. These
people were actually Unimet(? spelling) volunteers, an agency sponsored by
the United Nations. Why not ask them to join us for the vigil, we thought.
It appeared that we were not going to get into the camp, and this was a
good second option. We walked last things were beginning to move.

The next morning, along with our local guide Edmund, we returned to the
hotel full of optimism. It was only 7am, a half-hour before the vigil would
begin, and the Asti seemed deserted. Where did everyone go, we wondered to
ourselves. The night before it was brimming with activity. Now it felt cold
and to the hotel to see what we could learn.

When we arrived we couldn't believe our eyes. It was a beautiful evening
and dozens of groups of refugees stood around the hotel talking. It turned
out that nearly three hundred of them were staying at the Asti Hotel, and
they were overjoyed to hear about the world-wide prayer vigil the next
morning. Zumaya and I decided that we would return the next morning and
gather as many of them together as we could. At isolated. Then we saw a man
walk by with the words: "Can I Help?" written on his back. Zumaya walked up
to him and asked where everyone was. "Some have left for the camps," he
said to her. "The others are probably still asleep."

Just then a young boy walked up to us and stood next to the man. He
explained to the boy why we were there, that in a few moments millions of
people around the world would stop what they were doing to pray for them
and their country. "Why don't you go and get your friends," he seemed to
say to the child. The boy ran off and began knocking on doors, waking
everyone he could and calling his friends together. Within minutes the
parking lot was filled with at least thirty children. They clearly didn't
understand what was happening, but they were excited nonetheless. Soon
their parents followed, and others who heard the noise.
By the time my cell phone rang, signaling the beginning of the vigil, the
group had gathered on a small strip of grass alongside the hotel. I spoke
on the phone while tens of thousands of people listened through the
WorldPuja web page. Several women prayed over the phone as well, allowing
listeners to energetically link to the people there. And then something
amazing happened. "The children would like to sing a song," one of the
women said. Seconds later the children began singing "Ave Maria," their
voices rising above the landscape like a beacon of white healing light.
Tears of joy fell from our eyes.

What incredible faith, I thought to myself. What joy and grace they
demonstrated, even in the face of tragedy. It was a lesson to us all, to
everyone listening through the Internet, and to the whole world. I was
humbled beyond words by these amazing people. When it came time for a
moment of silence you could hear the sound of giggling children in the
background. How poignant. How appropriate. You can't take anything too
seriously, even this.

The vigil ended with hugs and presents. Some of the men wanted to talk to
me about my guitar which I had used to sing "The Prayer of St. Francis."
The woman talked to Zumaya and Grace, and Edmund soaked up the love and
affection of the children. Then we left, our hearts overflowing with
gratitude. It had worked out better than we expected. But that's the way it
always is when you release your expectations.

My dear Friends,

As we near the year 2000 I have been receiving some twenty emails out of the fifty I receive each day of a negative nature, full of doom and gloom. I am sure each one of you is aware of the power of thought. It is one of the most powerful tools we have. Let us join together to use this power of
thought for a positive end. I ask each one of you, whatever your belief system, to send out thoughts of lasting peace, healing and compassion to the people of our planet earth and to the earth itself.

Our group in the United Kingdom made a commitment in January of this year to focus twice a week on Ireland. Coincidence, I don't know but it looks as if this trouble island is nearing peace after many years of bloodshed and heartache.

Please pass this on to people you think that may use it.

The United States has always prided itself on its independent nature. As a
Senator from the state of Utah, I have a particularly strong sense of the rugged
individualism that built America. This does not, however, blind me to the
fact that the health and welfare of the U.S. is intrinsically bound to the viability
of the global economy. Foreign factories supply critical parts to American automakers.
Duringthe winter months, our fresh produce is imported from Chile. Ingredients
used by pharmaceutical manufacturers originate from all around the world. And let's
not forget petroleum. About 55% of this precious commodity and, thus, all of the
products derived from it come from other countries-countries that in many
cases are wholly unprepared for the Year 2000.

Thank you for all the hard work you have done to compile the emails you send
out. I read them all and am most grateful for the information as well as
your insight. I thought you might be interested in this.

Dear Jean,

I want to thank you for all the effort you're putting into this newsletter --
and for all your scrupulous efforts to get necessary information to us,
especially all the info on genetically engineered foods.

I am as concerned as anyone about the labeling. I think it's disgraceful the
way the government assumes that all Americans are like ostriches who bury
their heads in the sand and do whatever Big Daddy says, unlike Europeans who
stand up and say, "No! We don't want it, and we're not going to buy it!"

Everyone wants GE foods labeled as such, but it doesn't look as if the
government is going to agree to require that any time soon. I have yet to
read an alternative solution, but one does suggest itself to me. Why don't
we all write to the organic farmers and food producers, and ask that they
label their products, "CONTAINS NO GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOODS"? Then, if
we so desire, we can make a point of buying only foods WITH this label,
rather than without a label stating that this IS genetically engineered.

Just a thought.

Americans are having second thoughts about genetically modified food. Since the early 1990s, genetically modified grains and vegetables have turned up on produce shelves and as ingredients in processed food. That is changing as consumers, legislators and even federal regulators begin to raise questions about safety. The industry hopes to ward off regulatory action with more lobbying. That is a mistake. The questions about GM food must be answered, not shoved aside.
As in Europe, many U.S. consumers have now become jumpy about food with altered genes. They raise reasonable questions about the unknown risks, the unintended consequences or the long-term effects - from the potential escape of modified traits into wild species, to the effect on infants of eating plants that produce their own pesticides, to mutations producing harmful side effects.

U.S. government safety and environmental agencies say that test after test has found the food safe to grow and eat, but caveats are beginning to multiply. Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman said there are ''many'' questions ''that haven't been thought of, much less answered.'' The Food and Drug Administration was sure back in 1992 that no labeling of GM food was needed. Last month it held hearings around the country to take a closer look. Mr. Glickman now concedes that some kind of consumer labeling of GM food might be inevitable.

Monsanto and other leading producers of GM seeds are under assault in the courts. A handful of farmers filed a class action suit on Dec. 14 claiming that the plaintiffs were defrauded by safety claims on GM seeds. Litigation is hardly the best forum for the determination of scientific issues, but the lawsuit sends a clear signal to the industry that the opposition to the new technology must be taken seriously. The industry should concentrate on trying to build public confidence in the new technology.

What Can You Do?

1. Make a list of these GM foods and take it with you to the grocery store when you go shopping. Make copies for other family members to use.

2. Buy certified organic foods whenever possible.

3. Support the movement demanding long-term independent safety testing and labeling of genetically engineered foods.

4. Get informed about GM foods on the Internet. You will find hundreds of GM food articles and documented information.

Genetically Engineered Food - A Serious Health Risk

Search Engine Key word: GM+food

From: "C'esca Lawrence" <>

Between this and genetically altered food it's as if the government is "trying" to do everything it can to make us sick. Please read this for the safetey of your health.

The following message was edited for less time-consumtive reading.

Dear Friend,

**This warning is passed to you with concern for the safety and health of you and your family.**

Under pressure from corporate interests, the USDA has decided to allow the use of food 'irradiation' to treat foods so that they can have an exponentially longer shelf-life, thus increasing corporate profits. In addition, this process will allow shoddy food producers to sterilize contaminated foods while extending their shelf life, saving them spoilage losses. As many are pointing out, it resembles a scary, futuristic, science-fiction movie, but it is actually happening today in our country, and will continue to happen unless we do something to stop it. Fortunately, thousands of Americans are already voicing their outrage in protest. As many of us know, the human body requires fresh foods in their natural state in order to maintain normal health. This is why many are strongly opposed to irradiated food because the process of irradiation alters the natural state of food even though the food 'appears' the same. Here are several responses from beleagered food-consumers:

"A steak that can sit on the counter for days and not rot is not a steak anymore! It might as well be plastic!"

"Do you want to risk your health just so that the radiation/food industry can get rich?"

"Those idiots! I wouldn't radiate myself. Why would I eat radiated food every day? I am what I eat! My body is what I eat. I don't want an extended shelf-life! I want my life!"

Because the effects of radiation on food is invisible to the human eye, the food industry feels that the American public will be easily seduced by an advertising campaign and a nice little label to be placed on irradiated foods. All the industry has to do is convince people that irradiated foods are safe, and a new multi-billion dollar industry will have been born. This campaign will play upon your fears of bacteria (which radiation kills, naturally), your desire to save money, and try to sell you on the long shelf-life of foods blasted with radiation. Ads may show happy Moms pulling radiated vegetables out of a picnic basket. You will pay twice: Once at the store, and later, with your health. An already skeptical public of doctors, scientists, health experts, parents, and consumer-protection organizations are opposed to radiating food. Who do you trust: God and/or Nature who/which has freely provided human beings with natural food for eons, OR big business?

Please, on behalf of all the other human beings on this planet that may be subjected to this unthinkable practice of selling humans radiated food, do pass this letter to least all of your friends, so that they might pass it off to their friends, and so on... Think of it as calling your neighbor to warn them of an approaching hurricane, because it's coming, and it's dangerous, and knowing what we know about the dangers of irradiated food, how can we not warn others? Please, it takes less than a minute and forward this message. Tell your local grocer that you won't buy 'irradiated' food and you want access to quality fresh foods, as natural as possible.

Thank you.
